Afghanistan Appeal – Al-Wahab Foundation Distributes Food Packs to Earthquake Victims

The long-suffering Afghanistan got struck by a devastating earthquake of magnitude 6.3 near the Iranian border on Saturday, October 7 following strong aftershocks causing massive destruction. According to the reports, at least a dozen villages have been destroyed near the city of Herat while there is a fear of families buried under hundreds of destructed homes.

This catastrophic event has resulted in a death toll of over 1,000 people, whereas 2,000 have been registered for sustaining injuries. Afghanistan was already in the hold of a severe humanitarian crisis before this natural disaster due to which there is an extreme shortage of food and medical aid, and over half of the population is living through the economic crisis. Considering this miserable state, Al-Wahab Foundation has launched the Afghanistan Appeal to respond to the earthquake as locals struggle for their survival.

 

Humanitarian Crisis in Afghanistan

Since 2001, Afghanistan has been facing instability that resulted in malnutrition, severe poverty, and hindered access to basic necessities. As of April 2023, more than 40% of the population is facing alarming levels of acute food insecurity. In such a situation, the earthquake has pushed Afghanistan into a most severe humanitarian crisis.

There are millions of people struggling through the aftermath of the natural disaster and acute levels of food deprivation. The alarming economic crisis has posed a big challenge for locals to manage their survival in a state where an earthquake has caused massive devastation. As per the directions of Chairman Mufti Abdul Wahab, our team has distributed 125 food packs to the earthquake victims in collaboration with the Human Relief Mission in the Chaparhar District of the Nangarhar Province. Through this initiative, we provided relief to 125 families in Afghanistan.
