History of Muharram
As the crescent of this sacred month graces our skies, marking the beginning of a new Islamic year, we are reminded of profound historical events. It is a time when we recall the liberation of the Children of Israel by the Prophet Musa (AS) from the oppressive rule of Pharaoh, the joyous day when the Prophet Nuh (AS) and his companions disembarked from the Ark, and above all, the unparalleled sacrifices made by Imam Hussain (RA), his family, and companions during the Battle of Karbala.
Imam Hussain (RA) endured the heart-wrenching loss of his infant son, who tragically perished in his arms due to the denial of water, while countless others dear to him were held captive and martyred. Muharram stands as one of the holiest months, second only to Ramadan, urging us to strengthen our devotion to Allah (SWT) and pay respect to Imam Hussain (RA) through prayer, charity, and fasting.
This sacred month, you can express your reverence for the historical and spiritual significance of this month by donating water well or contributing to feeding the food-deprived people in honour of the Prophet (ﷺ), Imam Hussain (RA), or his companions. By doing so, you embark on a remarkable path of saving lives and transforming communities for generations to come.
Imam Hussain (RA) profoundly stated, “The most generous of people, is the one who gives to those from whom he has no hope of return.” – Imam Hussain (RA)
