“We don’t have to leave our house to get water anymore!”
Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace, said: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” Al-Tirmidhi
This form of Sadaqah extends to the afterlife and through generations, that is, you and your descendants keep earning rewards even after you have transcended to your immaterial eternal life. Among the varied acts of Sadaqah Jariyah, there is one that surpasses all – giving water. The act of giving someone water is sacred in Islam because it is equivalent to giving someone the gift of life. A single hand water pump can benefit up to 25 people and a water well aids around 200 individuals in an entire community.
Reliable access to clean water makes possible sustainable futures for entire communities, where children focus of education and adults on making a living instead of worrying and spending time and energy on getting water from miles away.
