Giving Food During Ramadan

This is Asif Ali. He and his family of five are among the thousands in Pakistan without access to basic food.  Last year, your donations helped provide food for Asif Ali and his family for the entire month of Ramadan.

Giving Food During Ramadan

“It’s easy to lose hope when nothing seems to be working out and you see your family go hungry, we are very grateful to Ummah Charity for taking care of people like us in such difficult times, because of them my family won’t have to worry about putting food on the table for iftar this Ramadan .”

Allah (SWT) says in his holy book:

“And in their wealth is a recognized right. For the (needy) who asks and the one who is deprived.” (Quran, 70:24-25)

As Ramadan closes in, Muslims around the world hope to strengthen their relationship with their creator through regular Salah (prayer) and Zikr (uttering the All Mighty’s names).

Many households will enjoy an amazing range and quantity of food for their families to enjoy during Iftar.  So now is a good time to remember those members of the Ummah who don’t have access to basic food necessities.

So far, we’ve helped improve the lives of over 82,644 people with our Food Pack and Cooked Meal and Iftar projects in Ramadan.

But This Year, The Need is Greater.

Over 821 million people globally were experiencing food scarcity at the beginning of 2020, since the start of the pandemic, the figure increased by another hundred million. In 2020, more people suffered food insecurity than were directly impacted by the deadly virus.

This goes to show how widespread hunger is and, by implication, how unjust food distribution networks can be. This Ramadan, we at AWF require your help in fighting these unjust systems by giving monthly food packs and cooked Iftar meals to those in need.

We want you remember that the Islamic model of society stresses on the importance of fair food distribution and empathy towards communities struggling with food insecurity.

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

“He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while the neighbor to his side goes hungry.” (Al-Albani)

How you can show solidarity to the Ummah

Here in the UK, and in other more developed parts of the world, we can see an end to this pandemic in the near future.

But in the developing world the reality is very different. With less capacity to control and treat the virus, underprivileged Muslim communities in countries like Pakistan are likely to live with the economic shock of the pandemic for years.

With Ramadan approaching, we’re shifting our focus on providing food in developing countries, which are the worst hit and will likely suffer longer.

With our cooked meal initiative, you can a feed over a 100 people left without sustenance because of the pandemic with just £100 of your Zakat or Sadaqah. Allah (SWT) says in Suran Al Insan of his holy book that the generous among the Muslim say [in their hearts] when they give charity that:

“We only feed you for the sake of Allah Almighty, and we ask for nothing in return from you, not even a word of thanks’’ (76:8-9)

Donate today to save lives.

By 2020, AWF’s Ramadan-related aid had already reached over 105,434 people, this year we aim to increase this number by another 100,000 with your help.

We do this work driven by the teachings of Allah (SWT) and the Prophet and with a genuine belief that just and equitable food re-distribution can help to significantly reduce the world hunger crisis.  Share our journey.  You can find out more about  our Iftar programme this Ramadan by visiting here.

“… give of your wealth out of love for Him, to your kin and orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves…” (Quran, 2:177)
