The last 10 nights of Ramadan hold special significance among the 3 parts of Ramadan as it is the most precious time for worshipping and fasting. Starting from the night before the twenty-first of Ramadan, it is the time of this sacred month when Muslims increase their ibadah while expressing gratitude towards Allah (SWT) for the opportunity to seek forgiveness in the final stretch of the holy month, thus signifying the importance of the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
To understand the importance of the last 10 nights of Ramadan, it is important to know about Laylatul Qadr. Laylatul Qadr is considered as the most sacred night in the final days of Ramadan as it is believed that the Holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) on this night. Following this significance, additional rewards and blessings may be attainable during the last 10 nights.
The Prophet (S.A.W) said:
“Whoever stands (in prayer) during Laylat al-Qadr with faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, his previous sins will be forgiven.” – Sahih Muslim (Book 6, Hadith 263)
Strengthening Bond with Allah – Another benefit of the last 10 days of Ramadan is that you can self-reflect and strengthen your bond with Allah (SWT) by increasing your worshipping and Dhikr.
The spiritual rewards underscoring the importance of the last 10 nights of Ramadan include the multiplied blessings for every good deed, seeking forgiveness following increased ibadah and Dhikr, and the chances of witnessing laylatul Qadr. Additionally, it is that time of Ramadan when you can finally strengthen your iman and connection with Allah (SWT) while seeking blessings for the months beyond.
For those wondering why is the month of Ramadan important, it is the best time of the year for Muslims to reflect and work on self-improvement by studying religion in depth. Reciting the Holy Quran with translation and gaining knowledge of Sunnah helps you redefine your priorities and practice good deeds. Once you devote yourself to cleanse your heart and soul for Allah’s will during Ramadan, it helps you to turn out as a better person. When you think about how and why is the month of Ramadan important for every Muslim, the following Hadith explains the answer well in this regard:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Ramadan is a month whose beginning is mercy, its middle is forgiveness, and its end is freedom from the Fire.” – Sunan Ibn Majah (Hadith 1639)
During these last 10 nights of Ramadan, you can reap additional rewards and blessings by increasing your worshipping and Dhikr along with performing good deeds with the aim to please Allah.. According to the Sunnah, these are the nights when the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) would increase his worship.
“The Prophet would exert himself in worship during the last ten nights more than at any other time of the year.” (Muslim)
In the third Ashra of Ramadan, the most important night to reap multiple rewards and practice ibadah is the night of Laylatul Qadr. The Night of Power, or Laylat Al Qadr, is the night mentioned in the Qur’an and is said to be better than a thousand nights.
“And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” (Holy Qur’an 97:1-5)
Laylatul Qadr can fall on any of the last ten nights during Ramadan but some sources report that it can be on an odd night. For those observing Ramadan, considering the importance of the last ten nights of Ramadan, it is a time to exert oneself in remembrance of Allah (SWT).
Aim to complete extra prayers during these nights. Make sure you complete all sunnah prayers and attend Tarawih prayers at your local masjid.
